How It Works

How a real road becomes a map

One example route, four stages. Follow the Pacific Coast Highway and Old Coast Road loop in Big Sur, from geographic reference to the first test drive.

Choose a road

Every map starts with the real place: where the road goes, how the terrain shapes it, and how it connects to the roads around it. In Big Sur, Highway 1 follows the Pacific coastline while Old Coast Road climbs inland to complete the loop. This geographic reference anchors the route before the world is built.

  • Real coastline, terrain and road alignment
  • Highway 1 coastal leg and Old Coast Road return
  • Old Coast Road is paved and widened for the game

Let’s be honest about the work

Tools help.
People finish it.

Automation handles repetitive steps, but every map is refined by hand and driven many times before release. A short route can take weeks; a big real-world network takes much longer. Help FHCM create a new Horizon!
